Finding Life's Echoes in Flower Deliveries

My first job was a summer spent delivering flowers for a local florist in my home town. This journey as a flower delivery driver, spanning two distinct chapters of my life, revealed the profound emotional language spoken through flowers. I witnessed firsthand the silent conversations they carried, the unspoken feelings they conveyed.

I've stood witness to tears of joy, felt the warmth of heartfelt hugs, and shared in quiet moments of remembrance. As a teenager, these experiences accumulated with a startling intensity, each delivery a snapshot of human emotion I was not expecting when taking that job. These moments continue to resonate, shaping my understanding of life.

Flowers have a way of expressing what words often cannot, a truth I saw played out in the diversity of deliveries. My days were a journey through life's spectrum: hospitals, senior living, funeral homes, schools, businesses, and homes. The weight of darkened hospital rooms was palpable at times yet, just floors away, the joyous cries of newborns filled maternity wards.

Funeral homes, too, held a unique emotional weight. While sadness was present, there was also a sense of celebration, honouring those we loved. This body of work expresses the delicate balance between joy and sorrow. While the majority of my work celebrates life's brighter moments, there are future works that delve into the quiet contemplation of life's more fragile moments.
